What Is It?
The Basic Aviation Risk Program (BARS) has developed the RPAS Audit and Registration Program to complement the RPAS Standard and provide a more efficient means of monitoring, assessing, and analysing risks associated with RPAS/Drones/UAVs. The BARS process provides clients with an independent analysis of our company compliance and procedures across the business operations to ensure we exceed the requirements set out by CASA in Australia.
Why Did We Do It?
BARS is both a requirement of some of our larger clients, but also serves to ensure that we are exceeding our obligations under the CASA regulations. AUAV underwent an onsite rigorous audit process that covered our policy, procedure, and records.
These areas covered:
- Organisation structure
- Management and procedures
- Flight operations
- Maintenance
What Does It Mean for AUAV?
Achieving BARS accreditation is a significant milestone for AUAV, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to exceeding CASA regulations and adhering to the highest industry best practices in RPAS safety. This rigorous audit serves as a testament to our dedication to maintaining the most stringent safety standards in all aspects of our operations.
While we acknowledge that many of our peers are still working towards this level of excellence, we are proud to be at the forefront of RPAS safety and are continuously striving to raise the bar in this critical area.
How many drone companies are there in Australia, and how many meet the BARS standard?
There are over 2700 registered drone companies in Australia but only a few in Australia meet the BARS standard.
How Does BARS compare to the International Organization for Standardization, eg ISO 45001?
Our unwavering commitment to safety is reflected in our achievement of BARS accreditation, a globally recognized benchmark for aviation safety and risk management established by the Flight Safety Foundation. This distinction signifies our expertise in mitigating the inherent risks associated with unmanned aerial systems (RPAS), guaranteeing the highest level of safety for our clients across diverse industries.
This accreditation seamlessly integrates with our existing ISO certifications
- ISO 14001: Environmental Management
- ISO 45001: Occupational Health and Safety
- ISO 9001: Quality Management
Whilst the ISO certifications are important to the overall business activities the BARS is very specific to our flight operations. These combined accreditations form the bedrock of our comprehensive Integrated Management System, a holistic framework that governs every aspect of our operations.
This dedication to safety and operational excellence sets us apart, ensuring that our clients receive the most reliable and risk-mitigated RPAS services available.
Who Requires BARS-Certified Drone Companies?
Various stakeholders across different industries recognise the value of BARS certification when it comes to drone operations. Some of the key entities that require services from BARS-certified drone companies include:
As the demand for drone services continues to grow across various sectors, ensuring safety and reliability in drone operations is imperative. BARS-certified drone companies play a crucial role in meeting this demand by upholding rigorous standards and best practices.
